Digital Image Creation and Development: Film Developing Process

In this module, for the first task, we were taught on how to clean film negatives.

These were the chemicals used in-order for the cleaning process.

The process of getting the film out from the case are in the dark, so no pictures were taken.

To get the film out, we use scissors to cut out the top of the film case.

Then, cut the both end of the film.

Insert the negative film inside a developer reel in the dark. Pinch a bit to make it easier for the film to enter the reel.

Put it in developer tank and close the lid.

After all the above step is done, the lights could be turn back on.

Now to prepare the chemicals to develop the film.

The first chemical that I use is ILFOSOL 3, use at dilution of 1+14. Pour it in the developer tank for 6 minutes.

The steps on how to shake the tank are, for the first minute; shake continuously, then put it down for 30 seconds. Continue shaking the tank until 30 seconds and repeat the same process for the next 4 minutes. For the last minute, shake the tank continuously. Drain the chemical from the tank. Then tap the tank  firmly to make sure there aren't any air bubbles inside with the film.

For the second chemical, it is ILFOSTOP, use at dilution of 1+19. The duration is 3 minutes. The steps used is the same as before.

For the third and final chemical, it is RAPID FIXER, use at dilution of 1+9. The duration is 5 minutes. The steps used is the same as before.

Finally, take the film out of the tank, and let it soak inside of a tub with running water.
Hang it to let it dry.
